Nashville, Tennessee -- July 23, 2001. WebDock DataPort, introduced earlier this year by WebDock will be released as a freeware product. The software features standard Microsoft database connectivity for collecting data from Rockwells Allen-Bradley PLC and SLC controllers. Comparable data collection software packages cost $3000.00 or more.
WebDocks new Discovery software suite will consist of both free and subscription software packages. WebDocks President, Eddie Shultz comments, Virtually all of the data collection software and hardware products for manufacturers today are good. The key is to help customers realize economic benefit and value from the connections between the products and ultimately the uses of the products not just the component pieces." The product line will continue to be improved and new products are schedule throughout 2001.
The software industry has a large number of shareware, or free software packages available. Linux is the most recognized. There is an ongoing project to develop sophisticated software control based on Linux that will also be free, namely PuffinPLC. However, WebDock is the first company to release a product in the industrial data collection segment for free. Users will be required to register the software, but no subscription or purchase price will be charged.
