EMail Sentry Stops Sircam Virus
Tenebril's EMail Sentry product effectively protected its users from the recent outbreak of the Sircam virus.
Only days after Tenebril Inc. released its EMail Sentry product, the now famous Sircam virus exploded onto the web. Sircam spreads itself through e-mail, sending users' personal documents as well. EMail Sentry effectively recognized and eliminated the Sircam virus from its users' e-mail accounts, making it impossible for the virus to reach their computers.
What is EMail Sentry?
EMail Sentry is one of Tenebril's latest products for the home and business computer user. It automatically scans an unlimited number of e-mail accounts, removing virus-infected mail and junk mail before it reaches the user's computer. EMail Sentry can also be configured to remove messages from certain senders, and to send automatic responses to abusive junk mailers or virus senders. EMail Sentry runs on Windows 95, 98, NT, 2000, ME and XP. It retails for $12.95.
How does it work?
EMail Sentry uses an advanced Internet backbone technology to differentiate junk mail from real mail. It eliminates viruses by optionally removing all executable code from an e-mail. This gives it an edge over most anti-virus programs, which depend on "signature" files to recognize viruses. The signature files may come too late to stop an infection, particularly for those in the first few days of the virus' attack. EMail Sentry's technique is also immune to virus mutations. Users can optionally allow trusted code through if they wish.
