British Telephone Box Crafted in Miniature Splendor by Timothy Richards

Sir Giles Gilbert Scott II shaped the modern, urban British landscape. His work is as archetypically British as golden arches were, once upon a time, essentially American. Scott is responsible for the iconic bright red telephone boxes (formally known as standard cast-iron kiosks) that have been gracing British street corners since 1926. Much like Scott in the 20th century, Timothy Richards uses modern artistic methods and classic architectural designs to shape his own landscape; the singular difference being that Timothy Richards architectural wonders can be transported and enjoyed the world over. Timothy Richards newest creation, the Telephone Box, pays homage to Sir Giles Gilbert Scott, his ingenuity as an architect and the way in which his designs influenced modern Britain.

Boulder, CO -- Sir Giles Gilbert Scott II shaped the modern, urban British landscape.

Telephone Box: In 1924, Giles Gilbert Scott won a competition to design a suitable standard pattern of kiosk that might be introduced throughout Britain. Suffice to say the winner was a familiar red telephone box, the K2 design. The most common type of telephone box is the K6 or Jubilee kiosk introduced in 1936 and became Britains standard kiosk for over 30 years. Over that time over 60,000 were erected. Red telephone boxes scattered throughout the land are as British as fish and chips served up in newspaper, and an important part of British heritage and history. Used as a stand-alone architectural element in your home or office, or as a pair to create an aesthetically pleasing set of bookends; the Telephone Box by Timothy Richards measures 4 1/2"W x 7"H.

Timothy Richards strives to show the essence of a building in his models, transferring the integrity of the original design into plaster. Primarily art objects and collectables, each piece is hand-cast in plaster, colored with earth pigments and is completed with acid-etched brass detail. Whether a long time collector of Timothy Richards works of art, or considering a first time acquisition, the entire collection can be enjoyed and purchased online at www.houseofascot.com.
