The Creative Power of E-Commerce

THE CREATIVE POWER OF E-COMMERCE – AN ANALYSIS PIECE (PICTURES ON REQUEST)

By Paul Wellings, Head of Media with e-commerce financials software house Access Accounting, Colchester, Essex. http://www.access-accounts.com

Some companies in Britain especially the smaller SMEs still havent appreciated the creative power of the e-commerce revolution. This creativity has led to a huge explosion in the number of new company start-ups, which is having a knock-on effect on corporate culture.

There are now thousands of small companies that have discovered they can go global overnight, by having their own web sites or piggybacking of an established player such as the eBay auction site. You only have to remember the antique violin seller in Dorset, who has booming sales in America thanks to creatively displaying his wares on eBay. Thousands of companies are moving this way, to sell traditional commodity" goods on the World Wide Web.

Whatever the company, the message is the same – if you have the creative imagination there are untold opportunities to sell to the world market. Even though e-commerce is still in its infancy – the consumer is already winning with lower prices just a click away.

Inevitably there will be a clearout of Internet casualties, and after this the companies that survive will be stronger. They will be joined by new kinds of creative companies selling digitised products direct to our screens, WAP mobile phones, or TV sets, through truly broadband connections. Everything will be bigger, quicker and bolder.

We are just witnessing the birth of the creative e-commerce revolution at a moment in time when technology leaps forward at breakneck speed. Consumers are using their people power to bring prices down while they can. To show how all-embracing e commerce is even the TUC boss John Monks has recognised the creative power of e-commerce and says trade unions will go virtual, as the economy shifts from traditional sales and manufacturing environments to eBusiness. Mr Monks added, the change is as fundamental as the introduction of railways and airlines."

Alistair OReilly, Managing Director with e-commerce financials software house Access Accounting also recognises this new found creativity and says, We have noticed that SMEs can go further and faster than ever possible before. One of our AccessweB customers found his company on GMTV television with international star Britney Spears ordering his pure oxygen online within weeks of launching his business. This all started from a simple web search and now he is getting 4,000 worth of orders a week." Now that is creative power at its best.
