Houston's Hottest Rock Band returns to the stage!

From deep in the cryolab, located in downtown Houston, dwells the sound of Superna. Breaking all stylistic boundaries, crafting songs that take the listener on a musical journey to a different place, one that is peacefully alluring yet sexy, nasty and powerful. Musically and vocally they seamlessly infuse different flavors and styles from jazz and classical to metal, electronic and hip-hop while maintaining a solid modern rock feel. "Fleetwood Mac meets Tool with hints of Sade sprinkled with emotion and rage". The music evokes and questions life's most perplexing situations and feelings by exploring sounds and musical moods which convey these feelings. Their live performances are intense, in your face, and then instantly open and beautiful. Using hypnotic grooves and melodies that stray away from the norm in a fresh and pleasing way, Superna has the sound and look that will undoubtedly attract industry attention.

Currently, Superna has been preparing to record their first CD with their new drummer. They have spent the last 6 months recording new songs in their studio, the cryolab, and have over 30 original songs recorded in pre-production. Superna has also been busy rehearsing their new show and currently are booking for 2001. Their immediate goals include to record a 4 song EP of their best songs to promote and market to music industry contacts as well as perform 4 to 6 shows a month. Superna is looking for the right record label to support their original sound, look and marketability, don't delay, contact them today!

HISTORY:

Melanie and nick have played together since 1998, when they met by fate and soon knew they had something special together musically. They played in Houston in popular cover band Zero Gravity doing everything from Rage to 311 to Tool, amazing crowds and starting riots. They were known by locals as "the band with that hot chick singer who can sing Tool". J.T. and Stephan Ray joined and soon after the move was made to all original music. As Superna, they have played gigs in Japan and Colorado as well as Texas and Louisiana. As they prepare to rock and kick 2001's ass, other worldly desires ring in the minds of the 5 members............................success.

PROFILES:

Melanie stands tall and commands your attention. Her stage presence and powerful low voice are stunning and mind blowing. Mysterious and beautiful, she draws people in to her world. Her lyrics evoke her vast knowledge and she moves and has a style all her own. Very entertaining, controversial, sexy and incredibly powerful this is no typical singer. Originally from Kaplan La. she also plays piano and guitar very well and has studied in Paris. She is truly one of a kind and projects the marketable image of Superna and is the perfect purveyor of the musical train that is Superna.

Conducting this train is the obsessed cryolab dweller Nick, who is always up to something in the lab and rarely sleeps. He mixes this and that to come up with the right blend for each songs emotional purpose. His songs are written from emotion and the music reflects that emotion. Musically he understands how to create unique songs that allow him to vent his intensity and test new musical water. From Houston Texas and graduate of the Musicians Institute in Hollywood Ca., Nick has taught guitar for ten years, owns NGM Pedalboard Systems and is the creative musical force behind Superna.

At low end maintenance is Johnny Thompson. He works closely with Nick to create the thick low end bass that is the pulse of Superna. Years of playing experience in all styles of music helps him to add the right flavor the song needs to move and groove. Also from Houston, J.T. has made a carrier out of going to school and has worked as a musical therapist and is always questioning "why?"

The newest member of Superna is drummer Dominick Hawkins. Dom has brought new life to Superna by his ability to push the music from sweet to slamming. His grooves are tasty and his use of dynamics are essential to convey the music's energy. A balance of power and finesse, Dom is the main reason for the intense changes and feel of the music. Hailing from New Orleans, La., Dominick serves up subpoenas as well as delicious grooves.

And finally, Stephan Ray, the D.J. and secret weapon of Superna. He adds synthesizers and samples as well as electronic beats and live scratching, enhancing the music's overall vibe. Often he will set the mood of the song by providing a backdrop of sonic color with his arsenal of expensive gear and toys. Stephan Ray, A.K.A. Obi-Wan-Spin-Obi and BOFRYLY the On Commander, pioneered Houston's underground scene and founded INDEpendent State Recordings.

In closing, Superna is making strides and doing the work necessary to put themselves into your homes and on your radio. Look for their 4 song CD in early 2001 and many gigs in the new real millennium. For show dates and the latest news on Superna, check out their website at www.superna.org.
