GLASTONBURY, CT -- Deckerheads appear in the most unexpected places. Etched in Hawaiian lava rocks. Scrawled into crop circles. And now, opposite Tom Hanks on a deserted island in the movie "Cast Away." Sort of.

Actually, "Wilson" - the name Hanks dubs his volleyball-headed companion - isn't a "Deckerhead" per se. The similarly wild-haired, offbeat Deckerhead is the official logo of Decker, an advertising agency based just outside Hartford in Glastonbury, CT. Deckerheads are found on everything from Decker letterhead to Decker coasters, mugs, tattoos, outerwear and the agency's own brand of microbrewed beer. The term Deckerhead also refers to the agency's employees. A few workers, in fact, actually embrace the title.

Still, the resemblance is striking -- even if you aren't dehydrated and starving. Although the Deckerhead has never been reproduced in blood like his fringe-haired cousin Wilson, it has been spotted in varied locations around the world. "The Deckerhead has been our symbol for six years," says Andrew Maguire, Partner and Chief Operating Officer. "It efficiently captures the unbounded spirit of our agency culture."

The advertising agency's client roster includes Carr's Crackers, Days Inn, CIGNA HealthCare, Emplanet, The Famous Grouse and Gertrude Hawk Chocolates. At present, FedEx is NOT one of Decker's accounts.

Curious? A crisply scrawled Deckerhead can be viewed at http://www.deckerhead.com/deckhd.gif.

The Deckerhead is currently reviewing scripts for a variety of 2001 projects. For details about the Decker advertising agency - history, clients, and beer - contact Andrew Maguire, amaguire@deckerhead.com, or Jim Decker, Senior Creative Director and Partner, at jdecker@deckerhead.com; 860.659.1311.
