OSHA Assistant Secretary of Labor to Speak at IIE Applied Ergonomics Conference
NORCROSS, GA (December 29, 2000) – Charles N. Jeffress, Assistant Secretary of Labor for the Occupational Safety and Health Administration will deliver the keynote address at the 4th Annual Applied Ergonomics Conference, March 13, in Orlando. He will address OSHAs mission to protect workers.
The Applied Ergonomics Conference is presented by IIE (The Institute of Industrial Engineers), OSHA (The Occupational Safety and Health Administration) and NIOSH (The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health). This industry event is one of the premier forums devoted to sharing ergonomics applications and solutions across a variety of industries. The conference will be held March 13-15 at the Rosen Centre Hotel in Orlando, Florida.
Jeffress is dedicated to reducing injuries, illnesses and fatalities among the more than 100 million workers at six million worksites that come under OSHAs jurisdiction. He has spent the past 20 years working on labor and the workplace issues. Prior to his nomination by President Clinton to head the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Mr. Jeffress was Deputy Commissioner of Labor. From 1992 until 1997, he supervised North Carolina OSHA enforcement, consultation, education and training activities. Mr. Jeffress directs a staff of more than 2,200 with a budget of $336 million.
The conference will appeal to ergonomists, occupational health professionals, safety/health directors, risk managers, industrial engineers, physical therapists, and other safety management and industrial hygiene professionals.
