USE-A-BILITY: A New "Niche" Market For Computer Books
NerdyBooks.com has announced a new line of books to designed to make using Windows-based software faster, easier and less intimidating.
Known as Just the tips, man, they're a series of sit-on-your-desk flipbooks, each containing 500+ tips, keyboard shortcuts and little-known techniques for Microsoft Word 2000, Excel 2000, PowerPoint 2000, and Windows Me.
Nerdy Books LLC is the brainchild of co-founders Wendy Richardson and Bob Flisser, two computer trainers with more than 20 years' experience between them. Just the tips, man was invented to make it easier for people to use Windows-based software, as opposed to just teaching how to operate them.
"What we found," says Bob Flisser, "was that there were all these tips and techniques for making programs work. However, because there were so many, and some were buried so deep inside the big manuals, that nobody could find them. These aren't undocumented tips and techniques; they're just not accessible."
Just the tips, man was designed to work much the same way a flip chart or desk calendar does by utilizing Wire-O binding and a cardboard stand built in so it can stand open on a desk next to the mouse pad for quick reference. Each book is 5" by 6" and designed so it can stand up by it'self on your computer desk for quick referencing.
Although there are only four books in the series to date, four more titles (Adobe Photoshop 6.0; Corel Draw 10.0; Internet; Email) are set to be released by the Spring. Nerdy Books ultimate goal is "50 by 05", or 50 different titles by the year 2005.
