Women Taking Over Congress

Women Bump Old Guard and Dominate Top Nine" for First Time

Arlington, VA – Today, irreverent website YourCongress.com announced that, for the first time, women claimed a majority of the spots in its weekly Top Nine" ranking. The Top Nine is a weekly feature which indicates which House or Senate profiles were requested the most often from YourCongress.coms online Congressional Directory.

For the week beginning January 15, five women, all Senators - Barbara Boxer (CA), Senator Dianne Feinstein (CA), Senator Jean Carnahan (MO), Senator Hillary Clinton (NY), and Senator Maria Cantwell (WA) - were among the nine most requested profiles from the YourCongress.com Congressional Directory. This week marks the first time that the Top Nine is composed of a majority of women. In fact, this week marks the first time women hold more than two spots in the Top Nine.

Interestingly, these women displaced popular old guard profiles such as Senator Jesse Helms, Speaker Dennis Hastert, and Congressman Tom Delay. On todays announcement, YourCongress.com Founder and CEO Christopher Porter said:

The dominance of women in this weeks Top Nine shows that the election of more women to Congress – particularly to high-profile Senate seats – has grabbed the general publics attention. Women are taking over Congress, and theyre doing it at the expense of the old boy network."

To see the Top Nine," simply visit the homepage of http://www.YourCongress.com and click on Top Nine" under Cast of Characters" section. Congressman Jesse Jackson Jr. was the most requested Congressional profile for the week beginning January 15.

YourCongress.com was launched in March of 2000 and has fast become the premier site for information about Congress.
