Internet Provides Emerging San Francisco Artist with a Voice in the Wake of Dot-Com Death

San Francisco, California--October 12, 2001-- If you've ever wanted to pursue your passion, change the world, or just have a voice then you know the challenges facing Kole Hicks, one of San Francisco's latest emerging artists. The roadblocks emerging artists must hurdle are tremendous, and with out a significant amount of money to fall back on, most emerging artists will never see their dream to fruition. In San Francisco the roadblocks have been particularly bad due to the rise of the dot-coms, making studio space unattainable, and causing most emerging artists to flee. Now days, the dot-coms are dying of, and studio prices are beginning to come down. Kole Hicks, representing a new breed of internet savvy artists is stepping up to the challenge, using the internet to break through the road blocks and get his work out to the public.

Wanting desperately to aid people in their quest to understand themselves Kole began illustrating his own experiences on canvas, thus beginning his life as a Visual Artist. His work, which takes on such personal issues as sexual identity, morality, judgement, pain, love, and fear primarily, consists of painted works. "I would hope that people viewing my work will see something of themselves in it", he says. "I want people to challenge their beliefs, and to take what they know and use it". By using the Internet as a resource Kole has begun to get his message out there. Using local resources such as Craigslist.com to find exhibition partners, and to post works that he has for sale Kole has begun to distribute his work. He has even produced his own web site: www.kolehicks.com allowing him to interact with his customers in a way he never thought possible.

When asked specifically how the Internet has helped him, Kole responded with: "it is simple, it has allowed me to plug into a community, which I might not have had access to. It has allowed me to find people who are interested in my work and share a similar view of life. Because of the Internet I have been able to come together with them, distribute my work, and ever so slightly, make an attempt to change the world."
