Celebrity Domain Names to be Transfered

In an attempt to clear up the confusion regarding the status of 1500 celebrity domain names that will soon be up for renewal, MorePro Marketing Inc. issued the following statement today.

Several news sources are reporting that the 1500 celebrity domain names presently owned by CelebSites Inc. (a celebrity Search Engine) will be available for cybersquaters to register on Oct 15th 2001. The truth is a large percentage of the names are coming up for renewal but they will not be released to the public on that date. Adding to the confusion is that in the last 9 months celebrities such as Hilary Swank have lost their domains to CyberSquaters and those domains were then pointed to porn sites. The domains in question that are coming up for renewal are still registered to CelebSites and will be for a short time after the dates for renewals pass. This will give the celebritys lawyers and agents more then enough time to insure that the domains are transferred to their clients.

Some celebrities or their agents may be choosing to wait until the domain is released and then register them. They should be be aware that cybersquaters are using special services that check the domain registration several times a day to see if it has become available. Unless the celebritys agent or lawyer is willing to work as hard as the cybersquaters they will probably have to go to court or ICANN arbitration to get the name back.
