3rd Annual Harvest Festival to Benefit Brainfood and Community Harvest
Local nonprofit organizations, Brainfood and Community Harvest will host their third annual Harvest Festival on Saturday, November 17th 6 pm-midnight at the Josephine Butler Parks Center 2437 15th Street, NW. Community Harvest and Brainfood are working to cultivate healthier communities through food. The Harvest Festival will feature—and promote support of— food grown in the DC region, local musicians and artists, as well as beer and wine from local microbreweries and wineries.
We believe supporting local culture is part of building stronger communities," said Suzanne Isack, who heads Brainfood—a DC-based nonprofit that uses food as a tool to build life skills with at-risk teens. "In harvest season we celebrate the bounty of the land," said John Friedrich, founder and director of Community Harvest. The Harvest Festival will celebrate the DC area farmers, musicians, artists and community leaders who make the DC region one of the most rewarding places to live in the country. Anyone who thinks that Washington, DC begins and ends in the shadow of the monuments will be pleasantly surprised by the sampling of home-grown produce and talent at the Harvest Festival."
Highlights of the Harvest Festival include:
- live music performed by local bands
- awards presentation to community leaders bringing good food" to low-income DC neighborhoods
- art displayed by local visual artists
