UNITY: TOGETHER FOR TOMORROW
Hoboken, NJ -- Still reeling from the terrorist attacks of September 11th and the violence of Operation: Enduring Freedom, many people in the tri-state area have sought ways to make their world a better place. Joining together to provide blood, support and money for the victims of the World Trade Center attacks, New York and New Jersey residents have shown strength and courage in the face of adversity. Now, with winter approaching, many have begun to wonder how the weak throughout the world will survive the coming months.
UNITY: TOGETHER FOR TOMRROW is a benefit planned by concerned New Jersey residents and supported by UNHCR. On Saturday, November 17 from 12 pm to 6 pm at the Rodeo/Ristra (230 Washington St., Hoboken, NJ, 201-216-1550, http://www.ristralounge.com) bands, artists and poets from the tri-state area will join together to raise money to help those in need, both at home and abroad. Funds from the event will be donated to UNICEF (United Nations Children's Fund), USA for UNHCR (United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees), the Hoboken Food Pantry and the Hoboken Shelter. Admission is $7, or $5 with the donation of canned food or travel toiletries.
Entertainment for the day includes the finest independent musicians from the Hoboken area. Well known bands Eugene (http://www.throughfog.com/), Edible Red (http://www.ediblered.net/), Ya-Ne-Zniyoo (http://www.ya-ne-zniyoo.com/) and Mr. Chu (http://www.mp3.com/mrchu) will join upcoming singer/songwriters Jamie Litt and Michelle Vecchione to provide song and music. Local poets Ellenelizabeth, Sags and Ofelia Rodriguez Goldstein will read works related to the attacks and the Thanksgiving holiday. To complete the show, photographer James Elmolo will present his documentary-style works featuring the Vietnam Veterans Memorial.
Promotional t-shirts and tank tops, featuring an original design by the popular NJ painter Angie Mason (http://www.angiemason.com/), will be sold to raise additional funds. A raffle of prizes donated by Hoboken businesses will also be held.
Drink specials and a special menu of hearty sandwiches, soup, and vegetarian entrees, all for under $5, will be provided.
Sponsors for the benefit include the Rodeo/Ristra Restaurant, The Office, DeBaun Auditorium (http://www.debaun.org) and Rick's T's (http://www.lazyscum.com/ricksts.html).
