AMERICORPS*NATIONAL CIVILIAN COMMUNITY CORPS (NCCC) TEAM TO BLAZE TRAILS, PROTECT LOCAL CAMPS AGAINST FIRE
An AmeriCorps*NCCC team will safeguard retreat centers in Julian against forest fires from November 5th until December 13th.
The team will blaze a trail for Camp Cedar Glen and protect Camp Stevens against possible damage from future forest fires. Both camps are used by church youth groups and for weekend retreats. Trails are open to the public for hiking. Cedar Glen is run by the United Methodist Church, Camp Stevens is run by the Episcopal Church.
Members of AmeriCorps*NCCC are assigned to a team of 10-12 of their peers and live on one of five campuses, completing 1,700 hours of community service during their 10-month term. Teams complete four to eight week projects in various states in their region, and focus on the areas of environment, unmet human needs, disaster relief, education and public safety.
The Western Region serves communities in California, Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Nevada, Utah, Arizona, Alaska and Hawaii.
In exchange for their service, Corps Members receive $4,725 to help pay for college or repay student loans. AmeriCorps, known as the domestic Peace Corps, is administered by the Corporation for National and Community Service. Interested applicants are encouraged to apply now. Many programs have no upper age limit. For more information visit www. Americorps.org or call 1-800-942-2677.
