Press Release
New Site Honors Veterans
Hackettstown, NJ, November 4, 2001 — In commemoration of Veteran's Day, a new site is being launched on the web for those who would like to honor the heroes in their lives. Candleforheroes.com offers a sanctuary-like setting where individuals may go to light a candle in memory of a loved one lost in war or in the recent tragedies that have befallen our nation. Visitors may also light candles for the living heroes in their lives, for those stationed overseas, or simply for peace in our nation.
Visitors to the web site will be invited to offer a brief passage expressing in their own words the sentiments they feel. Then they will initiate the lighting of the candle, which will be displayed on their screen. From that point forward, the candle will remain lit alongside a summary, such as "On this eleventh day of September, John Doe lit this candle in memory of those who perished in the World Trade Center." Subsequent visitors who click on that summary will be able to see the entire passage that John Doe contributed. There is no charge for these services.
Mark Taglienti, president of the site's sponsor and son of a Korean War Veteran, says, "At times when our nation's strengths are put to the test, many people look for meaningful outlets to show their national pride, convey support of the armed forces, pray for those overseas, and honor those who are no longer with us. Our hope in offering this web site free of charge is that people may find peace in offering a respectful sentiment to share with others — and that the heroes in our lives are given the recognition they deserve."
Candleforheroes.com is sponsored by Mallforheroes.com, which offers services to Veterans.
