WHY?

Online Music. Along with MP3, its the second most popular search term on the net (the first is ‘sex) and,
according to Jupiter Communications, US online music sales alone are expected to reach $5.4 billion in 2005.

The online music biz has seen the rise, fall and compromise of Napster, a marked increase in digital downloading and file swapping, music giants joining forces and the cassette tape becoming virtually extinct. Now a team of music
lovers are getting in on the action by launching ilikemusic.com on Nov 2.

Although not currently competing for music file sharing or subscription services, ilikemusic.com still hopes to
get a small slice of the online music pie, via its music shop (powered by 101cd.com), and partnerships with
onestopdjshop and other music retail sites.

WHAT?

Quite simply, ilikemusic.com is a new magazine, community, resource centre, directory and guide to all things music, and has two aims: to build a community and list of online music
lovers and to keep users and readers happy and involved.

What makes ilikemusic.com different to array of music sites on the web is that there is something for everyone: music
lovers and fans as well as unsigned bands and artists, djs, producers and songwriters. Plus the site is hugely user-led.

Visitors have a voice too and can write and review for ilikemusic.com and can send in their letters, jokes,
photos, resources, music and links, for possible inclusion on ‘Your Page. And theres the usual news,
reviews, interviews and features too.

Its very much like an offline magazine in that sense," says Founder, James Suddaby (Studley). But it also
combines that magazine style with a portal/directory style, with its collective library of links and tips
on everything from software and hardware links and reviews, music biz careers and unsigned acts resources,
to a boys toys section, an exclusive DJ swapshop area
and Going out/Chilling in directory."

HOW?

James Suddaby, 24, set up ilikemusic.com after failing to
find a one-stop shop that catered for most of his diverse
musical tastes. I wanted to provide DJs and producers
with a resource to find vinyl, equipment and software and
provide unsigned acts with a promotion tool and structured
advice/information on the music business, plus I wanted
to enable music fans to find, buy, read and learn about
music from hiphop and nu metal to pop and dance – all
at one primary source."

The ILM team have already completed interviews
with Jamiroquai, Mark B and Blade, Spooks, and
Mis-teeq, and plan to interview Ocean Colour Scene
on their stand (162) at Music Live 2001.

The majority of the ilikemusic.com team fit perfectly into
their own demographic, (primarily 15-30 year old males) so
creating a user-led interface has been less difficult than
had we all been suits," says James. But they are combining
their own young style with good business and marketing management,
to increase their chances of succeeding in the dotcom arena.

Says Cheryl Rickman, (Bez) Site Manager for ilikemusic.com,
Were very aware of the recent fallout from the dotcom world
and of the greater challenges we face. And we know why so many
dotcoms have failed: bad management, over-funding and
silly-spending. Thats why we havent ploughed millions into
the site and have an online marketing expert and business
manager to deal with relevant areas. We know we cant take on
the big boys and win – their revenue and profits will far
outweigh ours, but we do believe theres enough room in the
online music market for us, so we plan to give our users what
they want and get a slice of the pie. We also have a level
head in that we know the facts. Statistically more offline
start-ups fail than new dotcom start-ups, but the media
ignores that and goes with the hype, be it ‘get rich quick
or ‘dotcom doom."

WHERE? WHEN?

The Launch
ilikemusic.com launched on Nov 2 at the biggest music event
of the year, Music Live 2001. (STAND 162) (www.musiclive.co.uk)

Staged at the NEC in Birmingham from November 2nd – 4th
2001, this years show was as big as ever with
over 31,000 musicians and a variety of exhibitors creating
four shows in one: Mad About Guitars, Mad About Drums,
Music Technology Live and DJuk. Music Live is a flagship
show that promotes the music industry to a wider audience
and ilikemusic.com are excited about launching their site
at this years show.

ilikemusic.com had a busy stand and put on a wicked show, with EMEX and HITCH (featured on our launch issue
Soundstage http://www.ilikemusic.com/soundstage.html) wacking out a superb four deck mix set.

Another DJ that played on the ilikemusic.com stand was up and coming DJ NICKO. If the name sounds familiar, that'll be because he's the son of Iron Maiden drummer, NICKO
McBRAIN.

And yes, dad did come and watch his son mix up a hard house storm alongside HITCH, again on four decks. Check out the photos in next month's issue of ilikemusic.com.

ilikemusic.com's editor interviewed Damon from Ocean Colour Scene after their first performance on the live stage, and visitors can read the interview and win signed merchandise in next month's issue.

WHO?

The Team http://www.ilikemusic.com/meettheteam.html
Studley Moore (James) is the Founder and Director of
ilikemusic.com Ltd. Hes the business-minded, idea
generating entrepreneur of the team.

Studley started Djing aged 12, and enjoyed beat mixing
and playing out at local events. But he opted out of
public Djing, preferring instead to perfect his scratching
skills. Hooked after watching a DMC Championship video,
when hes not developing and running the business side
of ilikemusic.com, Studley can be found in his home
studio practising his scratch patterns avidly. His CD
and vinyl collection ranges from ABBA and Steps to the
most sought after German gabber first issues.

Bez (Cheryl) is the Editor and Site Manager for
ilikemusic.com Ltd. Shes the wordy writer type
who handles all the site content. Bez has been
freelance writing for six years, has had various
editorial positions and is the author of two booklets
on website promotion. Now she writes and edits
ilikemusic.com and manages online marketing for the
site, as well as arranging and doing interviews
with music stars. She does this alongside running
her own online business, WebCritique.

Kooshay (Steve) is the Photographer and Researcher
for ilikemusic.com. Hes the creative arty member
of the bunch. Kooshay is into nu metal, rock and
indie music. Hes known Studley since they were
nippers and theyve had many a heated debate about
music during their acquaintance. Now Kooshay is the
main photographer for ilikemusic.com and enjoys
snapping musicians through his big lens. Hes also
an avid skater.

Skip (Dan) Skipper is Researcher for ilikemusic.com.
Hes the mellow one in the team.
Hes into all sorts of music – a general all-rounder
whos partial to a bit of French disco. Skips main
interests are cars. Big time. Hes a car fanatic –
they are his thang. He also likes to listen to Radio 1s
Mark and Lard and watch motor racing. Fact:
Skippers geography teacher at school was a bassist in
70s rock band, Hawkwind
