Womens adventure tours in New Zealand launched

Adventure tours through the North Island of New Zealand for women 35yrs+. 3 weeks of exciting activities staged in stunning scenery.

Tour company Driftwood Dreamers has been set up by Driftwood Ltd to provide an adventure trip through the North Island of New Zealand, specifically for women. A maximum number of 10 women aged 35 years and upwards will be taken through the North Island for 3 weeks. The trips are all-inclusive, which means no extra payments for activities or accommodation and meals. There are over 14 different activities to take part in, which include white-water rafting and kayaking, a scenic flight over the Tongariro National Park volcanoes and sailing in an old schooner in the Bay of Islands.

Driftwood Dreamers was established to provide women with a variety of challenging activities within a non-competitive and friendly environment. The tours combine travelling and socialising in small groups with stimulating opportunities. The emphasis on these adventure tours is to avoid the typical tourist traps and stay off the beaten track. The diversity of activities and accommodation reflects this: Travellers will be overnighting in a bush-hut during a hike as well as staying in motels, isolated B&Bs and a rural marae. The idea is to offer a varied and personal taste of the pleasures New Zealand has to offer.

Director, Lyn Riesterer came up with the idea of organising trips for women through New Zealand after living abroad for 10 years. Like many New Zealanders who travel, she realised that her homeland was actually a particularly special place and wanted to share it with other women.

Since New Zealand is now considered to be the safest holiday destination in the world we anticipate lots of interest from women who want an exciting and varied holiday in a land they are comfortable travelling through. The activities require only average fitness, but women with a 'have-a-go attitude and sense of adventure would enjoy themselves the most."

The adventure tours will commence in February 2002.
