2D-information programming.

Sergey Beloy, IT consultant, introduces an innovative information model and its implementation in Java, which have no analogues in the world. The proposed 2D-infoExplorer application is a tool for effective information development, which allows writing data (notes, articles, lessons, and the whole books) in a way object-oriented software has been developed!

The main concept, - two-dimensional information space, - has nothing to do with a visual appearence of data. Rather, this is an original way of knowledge organization and management. It works like Rubik's Cube. Different users can use different views to the data cube. However, they always deal with the same class of information. In a way, this is introduction to Adjustable and Fragmented Information, - a data program that allows integrating versions of active reader(s) into initial content, and re-arranging versions' importance. The 2D-infoSpace's ability to apply to information principles of object-oriented programming, e.g., inheritence, is perfect for continues improving of textual content. For example, instead of creating a new document, we can extend already available knowledge classes.

Technologically, an underlying JDK (e.g., from Sun Microsystems) compiles information(!), as if it is a Java program. In essense, the proposed software is a Java program for generating other Java programs. The novelty is that the latter are optimized for being object-oriented information. Unlike many proprietary specifications, this cross-platform data format is open.

Comparing to the family of conventional word processors, the 2D-infoExplorer can be considered the first in the world 2D-knowledge processor! It makes a significant step toward transforming word processors into a framework for forming extensible and customized knowledge. On the one hand, by adding new dimensions to the viewed text documents, we extend a concept of word processors. On the other, we introduce a new paradigm for the variety of educational and analytical tools. With the proposed 2D-info SDK, the 2D-infostructure could be incorporated into any new text document.

Fields of application: tools for learning, R&D, multilingual readware, and groupware.

Marketing: 2D-infoExplorer Lite is free. The full version costs $45.

To summarize, the 2D-infoSpace outlines a new vision for knowledge management. Its key features: more flexible approach to information representation, ability to manipulate content fragments, and ability to dynamically extend (inherit) knowledge in object-oriented way.
