Planenews.com started it's life at the end of 1997 as the Aircraft Builders Mailing List, which is still in service today. The site evolved into a database driven aviation portal offering a multitude of aviation services, news, and databases.

Visitors can sign-up for membership and post their own news, as well as comment on posted articles.

Our system uses the PHPNuke software with MySQL and runs on Apache and FreeBSD.
Our main newsfeed is the list of articles themselves. At this time (Nov 15/2001) we post an average of three news per day, with an occasional burst to 5-6. Traafic is increasing however and we will probably top at 10-15 soon.
Our second newsfeed comes from the NTSB before being converted to RSS and lists the aviation accident reports of the current month. Data is update hourly on the half hour.

Just a great source of information for aviation enthusiasts.
