Spectrum Brands Corporation (OTCBB:SPBR) announced today that their wholly owned subsidiary, Spectrum Homeland Security Solutions Inc., has signed a ``Strategic Alliance'' with Spectronics Corporation to develop and market a line of ultraviolet light sterilization devices used for multiple applications.

Hauppauge, New York – November 13, 2001 – Spectrum Brands Corporation (OTCBB:SPBR) announced today that their wholly owned subsidiary, Spectrum Homeland Security Solutions Inc., has signed a ``Strategic Alliance'' with Spectronics Corporation to develop and market a line of ultraviolet light sterilization devices used for multiple applications.

UV sterilization and germicidal lamps are prevalent in all phases of industry, medicine and research and are used because of their abiotic effect and ability to produce photochemical changes in organic and inorganic substances.

Spectrum will work with the Spectronics staff to develop and market a viable cost effective solution, for commercial and residential applications, which can eradicate in a safe, timely and effective manner harmful bacteria and germs that are prevalent in our society today. It is believed that with modest modifications to current Spectronics technology, Spectrum will be able to offer such a product to the market in a short period of time.

Another use of germicidal lamps of interest to Spectrum is in water treatment systems to purify and destroy bacteria and toxic substances in water. The elimination can result in pyrogen-free water with objectionable odors removed and containing no dangerous chemical by-products.
