East Meets West in the Live Music Capital of the World
News of the status of the Austin, Texas music scene.
November 26, 2001 – Austin reclaims its namesake as The Live Music Capital" as musicians and bands throughout the country relocate to the celebrated city. For decades, Austin, Texas has been known for its rich history of turning out diverse and prominent musicians such as Stevie Ray Vaughn, ZZ Top, Janis Joplin and The Butthole Surfers.
During the technological boom in the last few years, many Austin clubs were sold out to the growing number of dot com companies, with large amounts of VC, that invaded the downtown area. While the tech industry heyday wanes, the Austin music scene is realizing a strong recovery, as musicians and music lovers alike are determined to see the music scene thrive.
Embarking on a national radio campaign, up and comers, Bilirubin, embody a new diversity in the Austin scene by combining musicians and influences from the Pacific Northwest to the East Coast. Bilirubin originated in Seattle, Washington and combined their grunge influences and love for experimental rock into a Hole meets PJ Harvey chaos of "firebrand rock". Since releasing their well-received debut CD, Origin", in September, Bilirubin has added New York bassist, Greg Amani, to the lineup. Amani brings experience working on New York projects with acts from Mary J. Blige to Cleopatra. Music lovers can get a taste of this unique combination online at http://www.bilirubin.tv.
With the flow of new musicians bringing a wide range of great music to the Austin area, as well as the extraordinary talent that the local scene already offers, Austin continues to be the place to look for excellence in music.
