ENCISIONS AEM® TECHNOLOGY OFFERS SOLUTION TO POTENTIALLY DEADLY OPERATING ROOM ACCIDENTS Informed Patients Can Demand Best Possible Care with Knowledge of Tech

Boulder, CO...Stray electrical current emanating from commonly used surgical instruments causes burns to nontargeted tissue and organs causing injuries that can be severe, and in some cases, fatal. These injuries cost millions of dollars in malpractice claims against doctors, hospitals and their insurance carriers. But, there is a patented new technology that promises to make these injuries a thing of the past.

Surgical instruments incorporating Encisions AEM technology have proven effective in eliminating stray electrosurgical burns and advancing patient safety. AEM Laparoscopic Instruments incorporate technology that continually monitors for any stray electrical energy and if needed interrupts the power source before it can do any harm to the patient.

In fact, AEM technology has been so well received that the Association of periOperative Registered Nurses (AORN) has recognized the system as a Recommended Practice" for Minimally Invasive Surgery.

At the recent 2001 National Congress of the AORN, Paul Perantinides, Esq., member of the Laparoscopic Litigation Group (a subsection of the Association of Trial Lawyers of America) stated, Failure to use AEM technology can be considered negligence."

Insurance groups in Colorado, Arizona, Tennessee and Wisconsin, as well as American Physician Insurance, have recommended their surgeons consider the use of active electrode monitoring technology to enhance patient safety. Says Jackie Hough, Vice President of Risk Management for the State Volunteer Mutual Insurance Company, We encourage each of our physician policy holders to go to their respective hospitals and request the AEM system be utilized to improve patient safety."

More than three million laparoscopic surgical procedures are performed annually in the United States, and reports estimate that 85% of surgeons utilize electrosurgical instruments in these procedures. Though reporting of electrosurgical complications is inconsistent, it is estimated that 1 to 3 per 1000 procedures result in complications. Encision indemnifies qualified hospitals against claims incurred as a result of stray electrosurgical burns.

Encision Inc. (OTC Bulletin Board: ECSN.OB) pioneered the development of patented AEM technology. Based in Boulder, CO, Encision designs and manufactures innovative surgical devices that allow the surgeon to optimize technique and patient safety during a broad range of surgical procedures.

Please see attached documents for additional facts, statistics and statements. Spokespeople from Encision, the AORN, surgeons, risk management groups and insurance companies are available for comment.
