North Philadelphia Health System Calculates Substantial Savings from Handheld Devices using Numoda Corp.'s wireless applications
Healthcare administration finding Handhelds with wireless data capture to be time and money saving technologies.
Excellent case-study.
Philadelphia, PA - November 12, 2001 - Embedded in the middle of a federal empowerment Zone, North Philadelphia Health System has taken a step forward in the past year through collaboration with another Philadelphia native, Numoda Corporation. Today, NPHS announced the results of a joint pilot project that incorporated Numoda mobile wireless healthcare technologies, CareLink, into the everyday environment of the hospital setting. Both partners were pleased to announce that the cutting-edge technology brought the health system greater revenue as well as substantial savings and improved quality.
"I knew this technology would be a great help to our nurses and physicians before we even started," stated Marva James, speaking about the Quality Management project at St. Joseph's Hospital, a 145 bed acute care facility. "What I didn't know was that handheld devices have a way of benefiting many of the processes they are around, such as eliminating service delays that result in reductions in lengths of stay. We have information to make decisions more quickly."
NPHS can now generate quality reports in ten minutes. Before the Numoda solution, reports took an average of 3 hours to produce. "Saving time means saving money in healthcare," said George Walmsley III, President and CEO, NPHS. "Because of this, CareLink helps us provide our community with the very best healthcare and that is why we are here."
"I knew that we would be able to help our neighbors at NPHS fulfill their mission as a premier healthcare provider," Said Mary Schaheen, CEO of Numoda. "We have proven our abilities, including 4 of the 100 largest companies in the world as customers, but working with NPHS was particularly rewarding. It is always nice when you have an opportunity to help out right at home."
