LOS ANGELES (PRWEB) December 12, 2001 - LivHOME, Inc., Southern California's premier "assisted-living-at-home" company, today announced a program designed to help seniors stay active by providing social interaction with older adults with similar education, experience and interests. Called the "Lifestyle Associates Program," it is available to LivHOME clients in Los Angeles, Santa Barbara, Ventura and Orange counties in California.
According to Steve Barlam, LivHOME co-founder and Chief Professional Officer, the Lifestyle Associates Program is a complementary social enhancement to the company's model of providing comprehensive, customized care management services to help seniors live in their own homes as long as possible.
"Services that address the mental and emotional well-being of our clients can be just as important and meaningful as those that help to meet physical needs," Barlam said. "Seniors need to stay mentally stimulated and engaged in life, and we found that one very effective solution is the companionship and interaction with someone who shares similar backgrounds and interests. That's what our Lifestyle Associates Program is all about."
Citing the example of a 92-year-old man, one of the early clients for the Lifestyle Associates Program, Barlam explained, "He had lost his wife six months earlier and was having a difficult time coping. His LivHOME care manager learned of his love for sailing, and arranged for a Lifestyle Associate who takes him out on a private sailboat. So our client can once again enjoy sailing and live a richer life."
"Lifestyle Associates are older adults who are employed and trained by the company, and are recruited directly from the communities LivHOME serves," states Mike Nicholson, co-founder and CEO of LivHOME. "The company also finds Lifestyle Associates through contacting organizations that have a large population of older constituents, such as retired teachers' organizations," he added.
"It's a win-win situation for both the Lifestyle Associates, who get a meaningful employment opportunity, and our senior clients," Nicholson said. "One of the first Lifestyle Associates we placed with a client is a retired CFO for a publicly traded company who said he got tired of just playing golf all day long, and wanted to do something meaningful with his time."
