12 Year Old Olympic torchbearer
12 year old published author, Sondra Clark is honored for her work in raising money for Aids orphans in Africa.She'll carry the Olympic torch in Seattle late January. General Motors donated a truck so she and her family can travel the US for one year, promoting Childcare International, arelief organization.
Youngest Olympic Torchbearer
Bellingham, WA. Although shes only 12 years old, Sondra Clark knows what it is like to help others. Shes already published two books and gives a portion of the proceeds to charity. Last December, she visited remote villages in Africa as a spokes child for Childcare International, a relief organization. Upon returning to the United States, Sondra began speaking at service clubs and churches, telling people how to help the Aids orphans she met. Shes raised $30,000 to help children get food and education. General Motors gave her family a truck to use to promote Childcare International. Because of her hard work, Sondra will be the youngest person to carry the Olympic torch on January 25 as it travels through 46 states before arriving in Salt Lake City.
210,000 people applied to be Olympic torchbearers. In order to be selected, applicants needed to be an inspiration" to others. 11,000 people will have the honor of carrying the Olympic torch for .2 miles, beginning in December. The torch will travel 13,500 miles in 65 days.
Sondras two books, Craft Fun With Sondra, and Wearable Art with Sondra, are available nationwide. She recently won the FOX Television Kids Hero Award for her efforts to help children in Third World countries. It was shocking to see how kids lived in Africa", said Sondra.
