eLinux To Provide Pre-Integrated Cluster Systems Using Scyld's Operating System
Annapolis, MD -- January 29, 2001 -- Scyld Computing Corporation, leading developers and providers of clustering operating system software, and eLinux, leading integrators and suppliers of Beowulf systems in the Asia Pacific region, are proud to announce eLinux joining with Scyld as an official "Authorized Vendor" of clusters using Scyld's Beowulf operating system.
Discussions and plans have been taking place between eLinux and Scyld for eLinux to provide fully supported pre-configured systems running Scyld Beowulf as part of its product line. As a Scyld Authorized Vendor, eLinux can offer its customers the full support of the operating system backed by the original development team.
eLinux engineers will receive training from Scyld's team. eLinux and Scyld are also working together to have eLinux offer training on Scyld Beowulf and to establish a Scyld Authorized Training Center in the Asia Pacific region.
Scyld is filling the need for a standard, supported, high performance cluster operating system. It has recently released its Scyld Beowulf Next Generation clustering operating system which provides simplified cluster integration and setup, minimal administration, and seamless scalability.

About Beowulf
Beowulf, and Beowulf clustering are terms that describe a technique of connecting commodity computers together , using a modified version of Linux, to create a High Performance Computer. Started in 1993, by Donald Becker and Thomas Sterling, early development was sponsored by NASA. In 1997, Beowulf clusters broke the ten billion operations per second mark, and today can perform over 200 billion operations per second. Today, there are tens of thousands of Beowulf clusters installed in government, educational, and commercial facilities. Beowulf is a descriptive service mark held by Linux International.
