"Lord of the Rings" Music Hits Top 40 on MP3.com

Austin, TX--Still eleven months before the release of J.R.R. Tolkien's fantasy classic, "Lord of the Rings", yet the buzz is already building to Star Wars Episode I proportions. Two weeks ago, it hit MP3.com and rocketed Austin Celtic duo, the Brobdingnagian Bards to #1 on the charts on the Celtic and World/Folk charts. And it propelled them as high as #31 on all of MP3.com. The staggering success of their song "Tolkien (The Hobbit & Lord of the Rings) has opened new doors for the Brobdingnagian Bards.

"We were doing fairly well on MP3.com, before the Tolkien hit #1. We'd made over $1000 in two months when suddenly we rocketed up and started earning $100 a day!" says Marc Gunn, autoharpist for The Bards. "It's exciting! People are really taking notice. We get several hundred hits a day and are selling dozens of albums. Sure it's nothing compared to the majors [labels], but for a band that plays primarily Renaissance festivals and weddings, it ain't bad!"

The Brobdingnagian Bards are best known at Renaissance festivals for their lively performance of popular songs and parodies, like the Barenaked Ladies parody, "If I Had A Million Ducats", available on their first of four albums for sale at MP3.com. But one of their most popular songs of late is an instrumental love song called "An Irish Valentine" that is #3 on the Seasonal/Holiday charts and gaining momentum. This song could be the next MP3.com hit as it continues to receive rave reviews from fans and websites.

While the success of "Tolkien (The Hobbit & Lord of the Rings)" has the Brobdingnagian Bards excited, they are even more excited about their rapid climb to success which has them performing with The Chieftains on January 30th, plus, they have been contacted by several record labels that are interested in their success.
