Data Shaping Happy to Leave South of Market, Relocates to Pittsburg
SAN FRANCISCO, California, 02/16/2001
Data Shaping Solutions, an internet startup specializing in statistical strategies, has decided to leave the trendy South of Market neighborhood in San Francisco and relocate to Pittsburg, Contra Costa County, 35 miles East. On January 1, the company closed all its operations in the City.
The company, initially threatened by 50% rent increases in one of the most expensive real estate market, decided not to renew its lease with The City Lofts. By the end of December, Data Shaping acquired a new property in Pittsburg, in one of the most desirable neighborhoods in town, increasing office space by 250%. Data Shaping is one of the first cutting edge internet company to relocate to Pittsburg, where housing costs are sensibly lower than in most parts of the Bay Area. The company expects other internet startup to follow, as the commute to San Francisco and Oakland is made easy for potential employees, thanks to the BART. The cost of energy, tax incentives and the absence of power outages were among the advantages in choosing Pittsburg for the headquarters.
