RESEARCHBYLIBRARIANS.COM IS BACK IN THE STACKS
Tucson, AZ (February 22, 2001) - Researchbylibrarians.com announced today that the highly praised site returned to the Internet on February 19, 2001 after a two month hiatus. Jane Stroud and Sharon Gaddis, head research librarians at the site, announced that the company had been restructured as a fee-for-service site that will cater to researchers who do not have the time to surf the Internet for information.
"Naturally we're disappointed that we couldn't continue to offer our services free of charge," said Jane Stroud, president of researchbylibrarians.com. "But we were pleasantly surprised to find a loyal client base willing to invest in research by trained research librarians. The site has evolved, but our visitors - be it student, doctor, reporter or researcher - can still have the individualized attention of a research librarian at his or her beck and call."
Founded in 1999, researchbylibrarians.com began as a free service and was quickly picked up by sites such as Assignment Editor, Refdesk and Teacher as a click through service to their site visitors. In late 2000 the site was forced to close because of the overwhelming number of requests for research generated by a press release to the Denver and Seattle newspapers. From 6th graders with term papers to lawyers with cases to prepare, the two librarians found themselves trying to research over 200 requests a day.
In its new iteration and with additional research librarians on staff, reserachbylibrarians.com directs clients to specific Web sites, newspapers, journals and reference materials with complete directions on how to find the needed information.
