In February 2000, fifteen emerging women leaders from around the world gathered in Washington, DC for the first Vital Voices Global Exchange sponsored by the U.S. Department of State and the Stanley Foundation. Most participants of the ten-day program were alumnae of Vital Voices
democracy programs who, inspired by their experiences, launched Vital Voices chapters to support critical work in their own countries. Through Vital Voices, the U.S. Government developed and supported a network of emerging women leaders committed to building strong democracies and vibrant economies.
The Vital Voices Global Partnership (VVGP), a new non-profit organization, aims to build upon that important work. This event is part of a Global Leadership Training Seminar sponsored and coordinated by the US
Department of State and the Vital Voices Global Partnership. The program aims to
foster a growing global network that helps emerging women leaders acquire skills, resources, and partners in order to strengthen civil society and democratic institutions in their countries.
The discussion will highlight:
- Activities of the U.S. Government to
support the advancement of
women around the world.
- Critical efforts by women worldwide to
build economies and strengthen
democracies.
- Public-private partnerships for effective
leadership.
