Support FetchDog - Detect and repair software errors on a local or remote PC.

For immediate release

Sunnyvale (March 19th, 2001) - 4Developers LLC, a leading developer of support and ActiveX/COM tools, today released Support FetchDog 1.0 - a unique software product that enables help desks, IT departments, software developers and other support providers to detect and repair software errors on a local or remote PC, by allowing them to retrieve the exact configuration state of that computer.

The Windows operating system consists of different configuration elements such as DLL files, INI files and Registry settings. Software errors usually occur when one of these elements is missing or has been changed. One of the greatest challenges facing support providers is to determine which element is causing the errors. Since support providers do not usually have physical access to the faulty computer, and the user on the other side is often inexperienced, the challenge becomes even greater. To make it worse, the average software application depends on hundreds of these configuration elements, making it harder than finding a needle in a haystack.

Support FetchDog answers this challenge by allowing support providers to examine a remote or local PC, and determine which configuration elements are missing or different than expected. It does that without any pre-installed software on the users computer and with minimal effort from the supported user. Unlike other products, it works asynchronously, not requiring the support provider and user to remain online or on the phone. What makes Support FetchDog special is its ability to create small programs, called "Configuration Fetchers", which can easily be distributed by E-mail or on the Web. When a user runs one of these small programs, it generates a configuration report and sends it back to the support provider by E-mail.

Configuration Fetchers are highly customizable, allowing you to specify how they will interact with the user and which information they should retrieve. They are able to retrieve system information, file information, Registry information and more, covering the entire spectrum of configuration elements that are vulnerable to errors. You can also specify which values you expect to find on the remote computer and be notified if the actual values do not match.

Support FetchDog substantially reduces the complexity of identifying and repairing software errors which support providers face every day. It runs on Windows 95/98/NT/2000/Me.

A 30-day trial version of Support FetchDog can be downloaded from:
