U.S. Publisher Offers To Go to China
Kingston (NVT) - NewsViewToday editor, Mike Corthell has offered to go to China to work for the release of 24 U.S. servicemen and women.
"If a delegation appealing to the Chinese directly would help, we'd be willing to do that," Corthell told his staff at the NewsViewToday internet newspaper. "It has been done before by Rev. Jackson, but this time I feel a conservative approach is in order. We don't want to concede too much."
Corthell, the founder of New Hampshire's A Parents Right Coalition and internet publisher, makes the offer to counter Rev. Jackson's offer yesterday.
Corthell said he was not criticizing Jackson's offer and past efforts, but pointed to the new climate in Washington and the President's strong stand on moral values.
"We can be both diplomatic and stand for American values" Corthell said. "We do it in a way that honors our country. Good, honest citizens can be a voice and make a big difference in this crisis."
Corthell said he would not interfere with U.S. diplomatic efforts, but said that he thought the United States should not apologize for the collision of a U.S. spy plane and a Chinese fighter that led to the present standoff between the two countries. "There is another solution to this crisis," he said.
"I think our government should say: We have not violated China's sovereignty, we want our personnel back, period," Jackson said. "Getting Americans home is worth the tough negotiations, holding our heads high is worth something too."
