FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

A Violent Discharge of 70s NYC Punk Rock

The CBGBs, a tribute band to the famous CBGB night club in New York City,
pay homage to the Ramones, Talking Heads, Blondie and more

Poway CA, April 11, 2001: In the mid-70s rock music had turned into this sickening formula of bloated stadium rock bands consisting of dudes with bad perms and even worse guitar solos. Then there was disco.... we wont even get into that. It was this dissatisfaction with the current music scene, combined with a declining America, the after effects of the Watergate scandal, and the shitty economy, that pissed off Americas youth and gave rise to Punk Rock.

Its 2001 and these guys are still pissed off.

The CBGBs are a San Diego based tribute band extolling the vices of arguably the most famous night club in rock 'n roll history: CBGB OMFUG in New York City. Authentic right down to leather jackets, tattered jeans and bucket loads of attitude, The CBGBs band spews forth a high-energy show with music that made the CBGB club famous in the 70s: chainsaw-style Ramones blitzkreigs, psychotic Talking Heads tunes, Blondie bombshells and more.

According to drummer Dee Dee Blackhill, Were playing the music that kicked our ass in our youth."

CBGB is a Mecca in rock 'n roll history. The bands that came out of that club in the mid-70s invented punk rock," extolled bassist and lead singer Johnny Monroe. We aim to bring our audience back to that club, that era, that music and even that smell of the piss on the floor."

In the past few years there has been an explosion of tribute bands, but to record this is the only tribute band worshiping a venue.

In fact, the venue itself started causing some legal grief for the band back in February. We got a call from the attorney representing CBGB OMFUG and they wanted to shut down our website and our band name," said The CBGBs guitarist Scotty Rocket. But once they found out that we were propping them up, they agreed to let us use their name. Turns out those guys are really cool and we hope to be gigging there later this year."

The CBGBs will be performing at the Earth Day Festival in San Diegos Balboa Park on Sunday, April 22 at 1:00pm on The Planet 103.7 FMs stage. The band will also be doing a punk rock show at Dream Street in Ocean Beach on Thursday, April 26 at 9:30pm.
