MCAIN and DASCHLE SHARE SOFA BED ON WEEKEND TRIP, REPORT
Sen. Tom Daschle and John McCain shared sofa bed, according to news service DangFunny.
WASHINGTON - Although rumors that maverick Republican Senator John
McCain (R-AZ) would bolt the party are not new, the gossip increased when
this weekend it was revealed that Tom Daschle, the new Democratic
Majority leader in the Senate had slept over John McCains house in Arizona.
Now, sources have revealed that Daschle and McCain had shared a "fold
out sofa bed" at one point during the trip.
An angry President Bush demanded an explantation from the Arizona
Senator. But both men were quick to say, its not what you think..
Senator McCain said that the arrangement was nothing more than a
necessity, after a night of drinking and pool with the New Majority Leader
caused McCain to get in a little hot water with his wife Cindy.
"I orginally had Tom out in the sofa bed, but when we came back from
drinking, Cindy threw me out, " he said. "I guess I forgot to tell her
that Tom and I would be coming back late, and she had made dinner."
The affable but ambitious Daschle seized the opportunity to bond with
yet another maverick Senator.
"There's room enough here for you John." Daschle reportedly said.
"There's nothing to be ashamed about. You know I've always said there's
room for you."
McCain said he worried about Daschle's intention, aware that the new
Majority leader was on the lookout for any opportunity to encourage a
Republican Senator to swtich sides. But he was weary and in need of
sleep.
Although McCain said Daschle made only a few attempts to get him to
switch sides, before dozing off.
"You know John, " Daschle said. "There could be a nice chairmanship in
it for you. "
"I know, Tom." McCain answered. "I just got to sleep right now..."
"Oh, of course, John." Daschle said. "I'm not trying to push you.
But think about it. We may even be able to make you an honorary
Kennedy."
But McCain said Daschle was good natured about it, and didn't persist
very long.
" It was a win-win situation for everyone." McCain said. "except the
springs hurt my back a little."
McCain also gave some indication on how Daschle might handle the new
power-sharing situation in the houses of government.
"The thing was, Tom kept stealing the sheet. And when there was a
breeze, it was kinda cold. I don't know if that's a good sign. "
