CHILD MIGRANT CENTRAL INFORMATION INDEX 62 Adults Can Now Answer the Question Who Am I?"

The Index provides access to information for those child migrants, who for many years have found it difficult to gain access to their personal details and address the question of ‘Who am I

To date there have been over 500 enquiries to the and 62 successful matches. We need your help to publicise this service, to reach out to the thousands who have not yet made contact.

The Australian Senate Inquiry Report into child migration was released on 30 August 2001. It seeks to right the record for many child migrants who have suffered emotionally and physically over the years as a result of the policies and practices of various agencies and the British and Australian governments. The full text of the report can be viewed at http://www.aph.gov.au/senate/committee/clac_ctte/index.htm .

The computerised Index has been available to perform searches since November 1999, containing the names of more than 18,000 child migrants. We also have the names of the UK Sending Agencies who hold the records on these child migrants who were sent primarily to Australia, Canada and New Zealand between 1920 and the late 1960s.

The Index provides access to information for those child migrants, who for many years have found it difficult to gain access to their personal details and address the question of ‘Who am I. The Index was set up in 1999 as a direct result of the House of Commons Health Select Committees findings and recommendations into the welfare of former British child migrants. The British Government commissioned the National Council of Voluntary Child Care Organisations (NCVCCO) to set up and manage the Child Migrant Central Information Index (CMCII) which is government funded until March 2002 and acts as a signposting service towards the child migrants Sending Agency.

The Child Migrant Central Information Index is located at NCVCCO, Unit 4, Pride Court, 80-82 White Lion Street, London N1 9PF England. Tel/Fax: +44 20 7713 5937 e-mail: migrant@voluntarychild.org website: http://www.ncvcco.org/projects/childmigrant.htm
