ANNOUNCING NEW CONTEMPORARY FICTION
E-BOOK: MIXING BLOOD, WEAVING HEARTS"
Provocative, contemporary ficture that explores an impact interracial relationships CAN have on BOTH sides of the fence. The author suggests that the ability to be arbitrary and mean-spirited is not a one-race issue.
Shannon Tennyson and Kevin Carlson are passionately in love. And now its time to meet the families. Familiar story? Yes, of course. Except that in this case Shannon is Black and Kevin is White. To complicate matters, NO ONE -- not family, friends, co-workers -- knows that they are a couple. Shannon crafted a plan to keep their relationship a secret until the timing was right". Kevin was skeptical and hesitant but allowed himself to participate. Now, today, they face their familial fates. Preparing for the occasion both are now engulfed in tidal waves of inner tension and frayed nerves. They are forced to face up to some ugly realities that could negatively impact their future. The deeper examination of the environments in which they were raised causes them to seriously consider some very basic truths. The Holiday Season is upon them. They are edgy and tense. Is this really going to be a day of Goodwill Toward Men? Maybe. Then, again............
Shannons cousin is a militant unforgiving hothead who hates all whites. Her parents
have all but forbidden any Black/White marriages because of a painful past incident. Kevins brother is shallow and bigoted. His uncle is a rabid racist who thrives on condescension and agitation. Kevin is also realizing he hadnt had a heart-to-heart with his parents about anything controversial in years. Was it deliberate? He
acknowledges his family has lived a very white life".
-more-
Neither family has a clue about what they are about to be confronted with because theyd seen nothing to arouse any suspicions. Who was going to be offended, and try to sabotage this union? Would the REAL expectations of their families cause them to end up victims rather than life-long partners? Would they be able to conquer the alarmists who are challenged" by this impossible" sudden revelation"? How would friends and co-workers react? Shannons realization that her well-crafted plan is backfiring has her in knots. Kevin is sorry he ever went along with a charade he hated in the first place. Yet he has a plan of his own. Would this be a triumph of love over ignorance?
Compassion over fear? What takes precedence: long-standing tradition or the ultimate
happiness of those we profess to love?
&&&&&&&&&&&
Stephaney Lesley, of Stone Mountain, GA, has written a provocative book that explores an impact interracial relationships can have on BOTH sides of the fence. She presents a perspective that is often neglected; that being, there are very many Black families who are neither fond nor open about these unions - and will not embrace it. It also suggests that while Whites are often distressed by these relationships, it is not always simply out of blind hatred and dedicated bigotry. It speaks to two very real facts of life. One, prejudice and mean-spiritedness do not come in one color. Two, you cant tell the heart who to love. Mixing Blood, Weaving Hearts" is available through: http://www.envy.nu/slesley
