CYPRESS, Calif. -- Ehlert Publishings Watercraft World magazine named the Yamaha WaveRunnerŪ GP1200R, the Musclecraft of the Year in its April 2001 issue, citing the GP1200Rs industry-leading performance, comfort and overall fun factor.
According to Watercraft World, the GP1200Rs 155 horsepower engine is the largest powerplant on the market, easily hitting a whopping 65-plus in their radar runs, but it was the combination of power and handling that distanced the GP1200R from its competition.
"It combines the best handling abilities and power, and is capable of delivering them in all conditions without sacrifice," said Watercraft World. "The craft is virtually alone in its ability to excel in all conditions."
Performance aside, the magazine noted that the GP1200Rs styling and comfort received top honors too. "This year the test riders gave the nod for the best looking watercraft to the Yamaha GP1200R, citing everything from Yamaha's workmanship and attention to detail, to the ultra-aggressive lines and the ever-popular Yamaha Blue color," said the magazine. Yamaha's hull and deck styling were deemed futuristic and aggressive. The seat is sculpted to hold you in place, and angled footwells enable the driver to lock into position," the magazine added.
According to Steve Lawler, Yamaha WaterCraft Group Public Relations and Racing Manager, the company is excited to add another Yamaha WaveRunner to the top ranks of high-performance watercraft. The WaveRunner GP1200R is one of the most successful personal watercraft Yamaha has ever designed, winning big both on the race course and on the sales floor."
This is the third time a Yamaha WaveRunner has been named Musclecraft of the Year and Im confident there will be more to come," said Lawler. Yamaha has a long tradition of building the best performing motorcycles, ATVs and personal watercraft in the powersports industry. We are committed to extending that tradition for many years to come."
