Microsoft to Preview Windows XP at the Philadelphia Area Computer Society

Huntingdon Valley, PA - The Philadelphia Area Computer Society (PACS) announced today that Microsoft will preview their soon to be released Windows XP operating system at the society's September 15th meeting in Hatboro, PA. Microsoft will also show their companion application suite, Office XP.

According to PACS President, Roberta Frazier, "Microsoft is a dedicated supporter of PACS and often provides direct assistance to the group and feeds our network of users helping users with important operating system features and application insights, some of which are not otherwise documented."

A member of PACS since 1997, Frazier is President of Helping Hand Technolgy Services, Inc., in Southampton, Pennsylvania, a technogy consulting service specializing in assisting small to mid-sized firms with their computing and other technology needs.

"With the rapid pace of change in the technology marketplace, we like to keep our members well informed of practical advances they need to be leaders in their jobs," said Frazier. Excited about the first meeting of their new fall line-up, she explained that "With news that Microsoft has given the go-ahead to PC makers to ship Windows XP as much as a full month prior to the official October 25 launch date, we expect to be able to give our members a good look at what's quickly coming down the pike, as well as a chance to talk directly with Microsoft about how it will individually affect their day to day life in computing. This is an excellent opportunity for novices and IT professionals alike to ask questions pertinent to their experience, and to see first-hand what this new operating system has to offer." Roberta Frazier can be reached for additional information by email at , or by telephone at 215-357-3633.

The meeting is scheduled for 1100am in the main auditorium at the Upper Moreland Middle School on Orangeman's Road in Hatboro, PA on Saturday, September 15. Admission is free to members and guests, although a free guest pass is available to non-members at the membership table in the cafeteria beginning at 900am on the day of the presentation.

The group hosts a full list of special interest groups beginning as early as 830am and continuing throughout the day in a "mini-convention" format with nearly two dozen technical sessions involving subjects as diverse as investing, web design and development, and varioius operating system clinics including Linux and MS Windows. Several regional user groups participate in the monthly technology feeding frenzy including the Philadelphia AutoCAD User Group, a Macintosh user group, and a Palm devices user group. A full schedule is available at the PACS web site at www.pacsnet.org.

Future planned presentations feature the CompuDudes, a Delaware Valley duo who host a spot on WHYY radio (90.9 FM), MGI Software, which specializes in multimedia products, and (strategically timed for that last big push just before Christmas) Bruce Fries, author of The Mp3 and Internet Audio Handbook, which is a complete guide to playing, editing, and recording audio files.

Additional information about PACS and their programming is available on their web site at www.pacsnet.org or from Reed Gustow, Presentation Chair, by email at mercury2@bellatlantic.net
