New Web Site, GlowingMineral.com Blends Music Technology with Tradition
Southbury, CT -- September 15, 2001 --
The new Web site GlowingMineral.com, developed in partnership with MP3.com (http://www.mp3.com), presents a unique collage of music samples from all corners of the earth. Recordings of traditional music from the Middle East, India, Africa, Asia and the rest of the world are combined to create a new sound that can be categorized as World Fusion.
To create the material, Sound Engineers travel worldwide to record the distinctive sounds of ethnic instruments and vocals through a process called "sampling". These samples are then rendered into digital files called "loops". Glowing Mineral's material was created by editing and arranging loops on the computer using specialized software.
Two of the songs have already been picked up in an exclusive deal with Choicetracks, a Film/TV Music Supervision company started by Ted Lowe, a former Director of A&R for Sony Music. The tracks "Golden Day", which has an Arabic sound, and "Rainbow Drama", an Asian piece, are the first featured on the site.
New tunes are being added to the site every two weeks, and a compilation CD is expected to be released in January, 2002. The music is in MP3 file format and is free to download and listen to. The site will bring in revenue through CD sales and the revolutionary MP3.com "Pay For Play" royalty system. 10% of the proceeds will
go to Children International (http://www.children.org), a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the lives of children living in poverty across the globe.
In addition to the World Music tracks, GlowingMineral.com features an image gallery, which highlights musicians and other performers from a variety of cultural traditions. The gallery includes photos of Aborigines playing traditional instruments, an authentic Indian snake charmer, masked Guatemalan performers and many other distinctive shots.
The Glowing Mineral material and Web site was Produced by Daniel James. James, a professional Web Programmer and Music Technology specialist, was inspired to create the site because of his love for the sounds of exotic instruments and fascination with other cultures. He is a Cum Laude graduate of the Hartt School of Music's Music Business program and also has a Professional Diploma from the Hartford Conservatory of Music.
