NATIONAL NUCLEAR SECURITY ADMINISTRATION TO USE KWIKTAG TO DIGITIZE PAPER DOCUMENTS
Director of Policy and Internal Controls Management at NNSA Calls KwikTag a Magic Bullet" for Paper
CHANDLER, AZ (September 25, 2001) — The National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA), a component of the Department of Energy in Washington, D.C., has installed KwikTag in its internal affairs department to more effectively manage its paper burden by filing paper as digital documents.
KwikTag is a patented system that easily and quickly transforms paper into digital files. Using KwikTags web browser system, existing office equipment and easy-to-use Post-it® products, NNSAs internal affairs department can now easily convert paper into digital files, and search for, publish and share documents according to multiple criteria.
There is a lot of paperwork associated with internal controls and managing policy," said Dick Speidel, director of policy and internal controls management at NNDA. Our department is responsible for ensuring our program has integrity and that were doing exactly what were supposed to be doing. That takes meticulous tracking of many, many documents. KwikTag is a magic bullet for us."
Speidel had originally considered installing a rewritable CD drive on his computer to have digital access to documents, but this solution was inadequate because it did not consider the document capture requirement. KwikTag lets NNSA capture paper files digitally using its Xerox Document Centre digital copy machines. Speidel says he will use KwikTag to store case files, which can be one and three-quarter inches thick, and numerous other documents.
Its all paper that we deal with here," said Speidel. We need to capture it, publish it if we need to, and allow access to other people when appropriate."
