In Wake of Recent Terrorist Attacks, Coastal Training Technologies
Corp. Makes Available Free Online Disaster Preparedness Video
Coastal Training Technologies Corp. makes available 20-minute training VIDEO STREAM via the world wide web, free of charge, to assist business and industry in the wake of the recent terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon.
VIRGINIA BEACH, VA - In response to the recent terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon on September 11, 2001, Coastal Training Technologies Corp., a leading publisher of workplace training resources, is making available free video streams of a new, 20-minute training video to help organizations worldwide prepare their workforce for potential emergencies and disasters. Coastal is providing the video at three stream rates (56K, 100K and 300K) to accommodate the widest audience. The streams are available via Coastal's main website: http://www.coastal.com.
The video, "SEA-J Special Report: Disaster Preparedness" is designed to help managers across the country and around the world to be prepared when, or if, the unexpected happens. Produced in a news-style format, the video contains segments on Emergency Action Plans, Fire Drills, and Package Bombs. Additional information on fire safety is also provided.
According to Coastal's executive vice president Phil Price, the company originally mailed the disaster preparedness video-free of charge-to thousands of its regular customers. "The week of the attack we were all stunned and hurt," Price said. "So,Coastal quickly created a video to address specific areas of heightened concern. We wanted to do our part in helping organizations recover from this tragedy and get back on their feet," he added.
Price said that the initial response to Coastal's offer was overwhelming. "In just a few business days, we have received nearly 4,300 requests for the new product," Price said. He added that, as a producer of video training resources, Coastal was uniquely positioned to provide critical assistance shortly following the attacks.
"The recent events have forced our managers at Coastal to review our fire and evacuation procedures and to increase security here at our new headquarters building in Virginia Beach. We knew that our own customers were facing these same issues and concerns," Price said. "So, it made sense for us to create a resource for other companies who also needed to revisit their emergency and disaster preparedness programs. We wanted to provide the training as a gesture of goodwill to our customers during this time of national crisis."
Given the initial response to the disaster preparedness video, Coastal president and CEO Paul Michels decided that Coastal should reach out to lend assistance to the wider business and industry communities. He said that the best way for Coastal to achieve this goal was to use the World Wide Web.
"Offering free streams of our disaster preparedness video training from our website was the best method to meet these needs," Michels added. According to Michels, Coastal began streaming the training video, free of charge, on Friday, September 21, making it available to any organization that wished to use it.
In addition, organizations who want to obtain a VHS copy of the training can access links from Coastal's website to purchase a discounted copy, Michels said. For a limited time, Coastal is making the "SEA-J Special Report: Disaster Preparedness" video available for purchase for $95, with all profits being donated to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund.
Headquartered in Virginia Beach, VA since its founding in 1984, Coastal is recognized as a leading publisher of employee training videos, handbooks, CD-ROMs, and web-based courses for corporate and government clients, including Exxon, Honda and Delta Airlines. In addition to its U. S. headquarters, Coastal also has offices in Brazil, Mexico, The Netherlands, and Spain. More information is available via: http://www.coastal.com.
