WHAT IF GOD SUSPENDED TIME, AND SENTENCED YOU TO CHANGE? The answer to this question--and much more--is revealed in Jermaine Watkins's entertaining new novel: A CHANGE OF HEART.
A CHANGE OF HEART -
A CHANGE OF HEART (Metropolis Ink, January 2002) by author Jermaine Watkins is an inspirational novel of love and hope for all... the dynamic tale of a special interracial friendship, which eventually triumphs over the deep roots of racism.
Ross Crass had been raised to hate blacks, whom he sees as an evil race responsible for the murder of his father. Now, more than ever, his hatred is inflamed by the recurring memories of his altercation with a desperate black writer, who was rejected from literary representation by Ross. An ensuing civil suit awards the black writer with the bulk of the agents wealth, and Ross is reduced to living in a dismal housing project in Hartford, Connecticut.
In the depth of Rosss own despair, there are special moments with new neighbors, an aspiring black novelist and his grandmother. And what ensues is a healing life change... a change that is part of Gods master plan.
Born and raised in Hartford, Connecticut, where A CHANGE OF HEART is set, Jermaine was inspired to write early in his youth, in connection with his then developing passion for reading. As a teenager, he discovered the strong talents of popular best-selling novelists in his high school library. However, he gradually discovered another, depressing reality: in comparison to novels written by white authors, there were no positive reflections of his beloved black culture. For over a decade, he has worked diligently to develop a unique tone of writing that will embrace all nationalities, as a true reflection of todays world. He has worked for a popular Connecticut newspaper, The Journal Inquirer. He still resides in Connecticut, where he is presently working on his second novel.
