Firefighter Novelist Completes Firehouse Family Series

Release describing a series of three novels set in the 1930s in a small Ohio town.

With the publication of THE FARM FIRES, firefighter, Laurie Loveman's third book in her Firehouse Family series is complete. The Firehouse Family series looks at problems that haven't changed much since the 1930s.

MEMORIES deals with the emotional trauma of fire fighting and how Jake McCann and his fire fighter friends cope with their memories. THE QUARRY looks at medical ethics issues that we still grapple with today, and THE FARM FIRES illustrates an arson problem that may never be stopped no matter how technologically advanced we become.

MEMORIES begins the series in 1932 with Jake McCann's appointment as fire chief in the small town of Woodhill, Ohio. Until Jake's arrival in Woodhill, Laura Darvey's life has been fairly predictable; she is 31, married, a nurse, and horse breeder. Upon Jake's arrival, her life changes when she learns of Jakes interest in horses. Their friendship deepens to a love affair that leads to terrifying consequences.

THE QUARRY introduces elderly Maudie Hegerty, whose son, Boris, is foreman of the local quarry. Boris is not only facing the threat of labor problems, he is trying to come to terms with the colon cancer that is killing his mother. Maudie is being cared for by Dr. Jessica Malloy, the physician in charge of the emergency department at Woodhill Memorial Hospital. In the course of her work, Jess befriends Woodhill Fire Department first-aid officer, Eli Sheffler, who becomes her steadfast friend through events that threaten everything they hoped would be in their future.

In THE FARM FIRES, a scroungy palomino horse brings Glynis Hampton, daughter of dairy farmer Ben Barneshill, into a chance meeting with Woodhill Fire Department Captain Freddy Pratter at the scene of the horseowner's death. Freddy falls in love with Glynis even as his investigation leads him to suspect that a member of her family could be the serial arsonist who has killed twice and could kill again in his thirst for revenge.

In addition to writing the books in the Firehouse Family series, Laurie Loveman is an officer in the Highland Hills (Ohio) Fire Department and consults on equine facility fire safety. She is a state-certified fire inspector and has a B.S. in Fire and Safety Engineering from the University of Cincinnati. With over 40 years experience in the horse industry and nearly 20 in the fire service, she has written many articles for equine and fire safety publications.
