SPECTRIAN ANNOUNCES FORMATION OF CHINESE SUBSIDIARY

SUNNYVALE, Calif., January 8, 2002 - Spectrian Corp. (Nasdaq: SPCT), a leader in the design and manufacture of power amplifiers for the wireless infrastructure market, today announced its formation of a wholly owned Chinese subsidiary and its new relationship with an outsource manufacturing partner which has facilities in China. The wholly owned subsidiary, Spectrian Telecommunications Equipment (Shanghai) Co. Ltd., is located in Shanghai, China, in the free-trade zone. Harry W. Oh, Spectrians vice president and general manager, Asia Pacific, will be responsible for the China operations. With the formation of this new Chinese subsidiary, Spectrian now has about 40 employees working in Asia.
Spectrians local outsource manufacturing partner is Microelectronic Technology, Inc. (MTI), a Taiwan-based leading manufacturer and supplier of microwave integrated circuit products used for satellite broadcasting, communications and telecommunications. MTI has a number of operations throughout Asia and has been manufacturing Spectrians amplifier products since December 2001 with strong yields in its new manufacturing facility in Wuxi, China, which is located just outside of Shanghai.
