Dont let the requirement for increased storage capacity detract from the need for intelligent data management, warns K-PAR Archiving Storage

Data storage is becoming a demanding issue for many systems administrators and as such, many wrongly believe that simply adding on more storage capacity is the way forward for their data requirements. However data management specialist, K-PAR Archiving Software warns that unless an effective archive and data management solution is in place to intelligently store the data, users are perpetuating the problem as they will also require more back-up storage and the time to recover should a disaster occur will also be greater.

Rachel Woods, European sales and marketing director at K-PAR Archiving Software says:
There is a danger that users are lulling themselves into a false sense of security, wrongly believing that the extra capacity is the solution to their storage needs. Jukebox manufacturers are responding to the need of greater storage capacity by introducing flipper technology that has doubled storage capacity and this combined with an archiving system is a better solution rather than just buying more hard disk space. Data which has not been intelligently stored in this way just creates more problem for the future and puts data integrity at risk.

K-PARs archive and data management software Archimedia simplifies the data storage process and provides users with greater control of their information. Archimedia, provides the flexibility to have one large file system for all data or for each individual disk to be given its own specific file system index which helps users locate data, even independently of the archive network.

ARCHIMEDIA also includes file based caching (which is essential for fast access for a slow device such as a large jukebox, or where many users are accessing files simultaneously); graphical management tools (which simplify installation and configuration); offline media management (which notifies users if the disk they require has been removed from the jukebox).

Running on Windows NT/2000 and Unix operating systems, Archimedia supports flipper jukeboxes from manufacturers such as JVC, Plasmon and Pioneer.
