New Genetic Material Transportation Device Released
New inexpensive device will allow researchers to conduct clinical trials via home or self collected blood samples; could cut a great amount of time and expense from sample collection for both clinical trials and for clinical applications
LAKE FOREST, Ill., For Immediate Release/ January 15, 2002/ -- BIOSAFE Laboratories, Inc. announced today that its Molecular Diagnostic Group has begun shipping its new Genetic Material Transport System (GMTS). The GMTS is based upon the Company's patent pending capillary "Blood Transport System" (BTS), which allows for the collection and shipment of micro-sample blood specimens taken from a "nick" of a finger. The GMTS will provide new reliability and convenience for clinical validations of suspected genetic markers, genome-based clinical trials, and current clinical applications.
The GMTS is the newest addition to BIOSAFEs family of products that include its BTS, Serum Transport System (STS), and Cell Transport System (CTS). Each micro-sample transport system is designed for use by either medical professionals or consumers. They provide a convenient and virtually painless alternative to the usual collection method of drawing blood from the arm, required for most diagnostic tests performed in medical laboratories, clinical research, and clinical trials.
The GMTS is a self-contained, FDA listed, consumer friendly, sample collection, sample stabilizer and U.S. mail certified biological material transport system. Use of the GMTS eliminates the need for a professional blood draw, sample centrifugation or processing prior to shipment, and temperature control during shipment. Consequently, sample acquisition costs are substantially reduced and sample useful life is significantly enhanced.
In addition to convenience, the GMTS contains a fill solution that completely and immediately lyses blood cells while eliminating cell membranes from analytical interference and enhancing the stability of genetic and proteomic molecules. The stabilized genetic sample is then ready for transport to any laboratory in the world. This creates the opportunity for large-scale sampling, virtually overnight.
