Data Services Direct Implements Distributed Processing with Captiva
FormWare Doubles Processing Volumes Without Increasing Costs
San Diego, CA and Parsippany, NJ -- January 14, 2002 -- Captiva Software Corporation, the market leader in enterprise information capture software, today announced the successful implementation of its FormWare 4.0 software at Data Services Direct (DSD), a leading service bureau specializing in data capture and database services. DSD is using FormWare to grow its service offerings quickly by utilizing over 250 in-office and remote production workers in both paper and image-based environments.
DSD, headquartered in Parsippany, NJ, with production centers in Woods Cross, UT and Baja California, Mexico, processes an average of 2.5 million forms and documents per month. They offer complete processing services including mail handling, scanning, imaging, document conversion, and fulfillment. Typical data conversion programs include credit card applications, warranty registrations, direct mail order processing, medical claim forms, returned mail processing, circulation, surveys, and others.
In 2000, DSDs new management team decided they wanted a proven, next-generation data capture solution that provided a standardized platform on which to grow their business. They wanted to build their business quickly by employing both an on-site and off-site workforce that could be managed and controlled effectively. Also, they
wanted to improve their imaging capabilities and ability to take advantage of new technologies that would allow them to leverage the Internet. Finally, they needed the system to be able to handle the flow of documents and images both to and from remote customer scanning locations, remote DSD scanning locations, within DSD production facilities and among various DSD production locations. They chose Captiva for its market leadership and expertise in the area of OCR technologies and distributed processing.
We looked at all the available products and selected Captiva for its long-standing leadership and expertise in the imaging and data capture market, " states Adam Östhed, Executive Vice President of DSD. FormWares universal capture platform allows us to run our processes efficiently and cost effectively across multiple locations, and easily track those processes in one standardized workflow. FormWare is the backbone of our entire production system. Most importantly, it has allowed us to grow aggressively with only modest increases in management and support staff."
FormWare is Captivas award-winning information capture software that automates data and image capture from paper and electronic forms and documents. This business-critical information can then be exported to database, document, content, and other information management systems, maximizing the accuracy and value of the data, speeding the capture process, increasing productivity and significantly reducing the cost of previously manual capture operations.
Through its revolutionary, new distributed processing capabilities, FormWare 4.0 offers customers the unique ability to leverage the power of the Internet to capture and process information anywhere in the world and thereby configure systems for optimal productivity and cost savings. In DSDs case, for example, paper forms can be scanned in multiple locations throughout the United States; image processing and recognition can be applied to those images at a data center in Utah, and data entry operators in Mexico can perform image data entry and reject repair using those images. Regardless of data source or location, FormWares distributed processing allows customers to develop and deploy all of these applications on a single platform, and capture critical information accurately and economically. Companies using FormWares distributed processing can reduce their overhead and mailing costs by utilizing in-home and offshore data entry staff to manually key from image, while still controlling workloads and productivity.
DSD has a data center located in Woods Cross, UT, and currently employs about 250 production personnel around the world. People work in the Utah office and at their home offices domestically, at offshore production facilities and at off-site scanning locations. Whether images are scanned by the customer, by DSD at the customers site, at a remote DSD site or at an offshore site, FormWares distributed scanning module allows the work to be tracked and controlled easily. FormWare provides product statistics for any point of the process and allows DSD to monitor the workflow and production cycles of any job, anytime. Once the dataand images are received at the data center, production workers at any location can perform quality control and edits using the Internet FormWare Server (IFS). DSD can monitor this activity and ensure a high level of accuracy and quality before uploading the data to customers.
DSD has long been a frontrunner in the service bureau market and are using our products to stay on the cutting edge of technology," states Blaine J. Owens, Vice President of North American Sales at Captiva. We applaud their success and look forward to working with them on future endeavors."
