San Jose, Costa Rica -- January, 15 2002 -- ArtinSoft, the enterprise software migration and upgrade specialist, today announced the availability of Informix 4GL to Java CodeAnalyzer and FormsAnalyzer for Oracle® Forms customers migrating their applications to Java. The easy-to-use wizards provide companies with a diagnostic assessment of their code prior to undertaking a migration project. Both the CodeAnalyzer and FormsAnalyzer allow customers to conduct preliminary testing to estimate the cost and duration of a migration and upgrade project to Java, and provide a detailed and complete analysis on the status of the code to be migrated.

The Informix 4GL to Java wizard is available for free from ArtinSoft and can be accessed at http://www.artinsoft.com/downloads/codeanalyzer/. For Oracle Forms users, the download to the wizard can be found at http://www.artinsoft.com/downloads/formsanalyzer/. The wizards can be utilized by software developers, IT managers and programmers who are planning to migrate an Informix 4GL or Oracle Forms application to Java to expand features, adhere to new standards, or simply reduce the maintenance costs and restrictions associated with their current applications.

One of the most important steps prior to undertaking a migration project is to evaluate the condition of the source code in order to avoid hidden costs and project delivery delays," commented Dr. Carlos Araya, CEO of ArtinSoft. ArtinSoft has been using this technology to deliver on-time and on-budget projects to its customers; the wizards have proven to be critical diagnostic tools that have helped our customers understand the 'health of their applications before allocating budget and resources to a migration project."

How it Works

The tools parse the code files and works on the Abstract Syntax Trees (ASTs), ensuring that everything that is analyzed will go through the migration process without a problem. The tools not only analyze the words found, but also analyze the context where these words are located. In cases where the application code needs to be altered prior to the migration, the tools generates a report alerting the programmer of the changes that need to take place.

The Informix 4GL to Java CodeAnalyzer guides users through a series of steps in order to collect all the necessary information to perform the source code analysis and plan the migration project. The results include:
·   A complete analysis of the database including, tables, views indexes, procedures and triggers.
·   An overview of all the functions, lines of codes, comments and statements to determine the scope and complexity of the application.
·   Highlights of unused forms and unused or ambiguous procedures to allow users to remove unnecessary code and rename the duplicate procedures therefore streamlining the migration process to reduce unnecessary costs.
·   The detection of missing forms and procedures to ensure code is complete.

The FormsAnalyzer guides users though a diagnosis of Oracle Forms Developer 6.0 and provides a precise evaluation of the cost and timing involved in the automatic migration when using ArtinSofts Freedom Technology. The results include:
·   A file migration percentage; showing the total migration supported by the Freedom technology
·   Forms Objects Information highlighting details of each form analyzed, including the amount of alerts, attached libraries and data blocks that each files contains
·   An overview of library and forms attachments which highlight the number of attachments each library or form contains
·   A detailed overview of the built-ins that are not supported by the automatic Freedom migration engine, which will provide an estimate of percentage of the work that needs consulting services input.
