Royal Fuzz 1 Year Anniversary Party with Robotic Storm Cloud CD Release

Royal Fuzz Music Collective hosts its 1 Year Anniversary Party on Friday, February 1st, at the EARL. Fellow Royal Fuzzites Minamina Goodsong hosts the event, and Kindercore Records artists I Am The World Trade Center kick off the festivities. Robotic Storm Cloud appears with a live band, made up of Tanner Dorheim (ex-Dropsonic, Mighty Afros), Diana Obscura, Mudfish (ph balance) and Kenny Howes (KH and the Yeah!).

To celebrate its first full year of activity, Royal Fuzz is releasing the second CD from Robotic Storm Cloud (aka Steve Libbey, founder of the label), "Free Life and Fresh Air." FLFA further explores the ground that Mr. Cloud sowed with "Ambush On All Sides," of which Southeast Performer says:

"Working much in the style of early Severed Heads or certain CAN projects, he allows seemingly random sounds (very few of which would be considered musical) to directly influence the way the piece of music goes, rather than the tried-and-failed method of placing tired industrial samples into the drum machine and sitting back...The end result is too good, too unexpectedly original to ever be called a sound collage."

The new CD is better, with deeper grooves, stranger samples and frequent intrusions of tonality. Think DJ Spooky meets The Beatles...or misses them by a hair. The packaging is hands on, too: a limited edition run of 100, hand printed with a japanese screen printing device on lovely organic Kraft cardboard by Mr. Cloud himself.

To make the evening even more special for everyone, the performances will be recorded. Robotic Storm Cloud will release the concert recording as "33 1/3 in the 21st", with some bonus unreleased tracks. The innersleeve will include pictures of those hardy souls who bought "Free Life" at the concert, are are brave enough to be immortalized on a cd sleeve. As Mr. Cloud waggishly notes, "It's like a second high school yearbook for those who truly believe their guts are made of machinery." No, we didn't get that one either.

Royal Fuzz is dedicated to releasing music without the strings and arrows of outrageous industry contracts. Our artists are happy, unexploited, free range artists, and include such luminaries as ph balance, Lance Ohio (Bill Alletzhauser of the Ass Ponys), The Thin Man, Kenny Howes and the Yeah!, Minamina Goodsong, The Haywards and many, many more. In our first year of operation we signed and released 30 bands, and more are in the works. We have a fully functional ecommerce solution implemented on our site (www.royalfuzz.com), work with conventional distributors, and have product on Amazon.com. In 2002, we hope to shore up our distribution and promotional foundations, release a few samplers, release tons of music, help artists promote themselves, and get a warm fuzzy feeling from a job well done.
