CONEXANT ADDS NEW HDTV VIDEO ENCODERS TO PORTFOLIO OF BROADCAST VIDEO SOLUTIONS

New Encoders Allow Users to View PC, DVD, Game Console or Set-Top Box Content on Digital or Analog Televisions

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif., Jan. 14, 2002 -- Conexant Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq: CNXT), a worldwide leader in semiconductor system solutions for communications applications, today expanded its broadcast video offering to include encoders that cut the cost of supporting TV-out for displaying high-performance high-definition television (HDTV) content in PC systems, progressive DVD players, performance game consoles and other emerging applications.
Conexants new CX25872/3 and CX25874/5 products build upon the companys proven video encoder solutions to combine adaptive flicker-filtering, HDTV output capability and true international support including the latest copy-protection features for digital content. The video encoders enable users, worldwide, to display high-quality content from PCs, set-top boxes, progressive DVD players and video game consoles on either analog or digital television sets.
Conexant has one of the industrys strongest product and technology portfolios in key emerging digital broadband access and media-processing markets, backed by a reputation for offering high-quality video solutions at competitive prices," said Greg Fischer, vice president of computer products for Conexants Digital Infotainment Division. With the addition of our new CX25872/3 and CX25874/5 products, customers can quickly bring to market new TV-out solutions that include the latest adaptive flicker-filtering and HDTV features, at price points for every segment."
Conexant is the market share leader in video-encoder chips for the PC desktop add-in card market. Conexants proven video encoder solutions have helped popularize PC TV-out in PC systems offered by Compaq, Dell, Gateway, Hewlett-Packard, IBM and many others, and in PC add-in cards offered by manufacturers such as Guillemot, Leadtek and Visiontek. In addition, the companys previous-generation CX25871 video encoder solution was selected by Microsoft Corporation to connect the Xbox video game system to both digital and traditional analog television sets worldwide.

Technical Details
Conexants CX25872/3 and CX25874/5 video encoders fully support all features of Conexants previous-generation encoders, the CX25870/1 and the markets most popular PC video encoder, the Bt868/869. Key features include high performance TV-out capability with 10-bit DACs, support for resolutions from 320 x 200 to 1024 x 768, and programmable overscan compensation capability ranging from zero to 25 percent.
The CX25872/3 and CX25874/5 provide manufacturers worldwide with the highest level of integration, smallest footprint, and lowest bill of materials cost and component count offered in a single-chip solution. Each new video encoder supports National Television Systems Committee (NTSC) and Phase Alternate Line (PAL) analog formats, and Sequential Couleur avec Memoire (SECAM) output.
Conexants family of encoders was the first to offer true worldwide support for WSS 16:9 per the Electronics Industries Association of Japan (EIAJ) CPR-1204 and the radio sector of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU-R) BT.119, which are popular analog standards in Europe and Japan. The video encoders support CCIR656 and CCIR601 standards, which are important video standards required by applications such as PC graphics cards, set-top boxes and progressive-scan DVD players.
Conexants CX25874/5 video encoder raises the performance level of its CX25872/3 solution with the addition of true HDTV display capability. This includes all of Conexants proven HDTV technology for viewing PC content on digital television sets, plus the addition of full support for the 525p/625p copy protection standard. The CX25874/5 integrates the CGMS standards and supports all major Advanced Television
Systems Committee (ATSC) standards including 480p, 720p and 1080i, and actually provides the tri-level syncs and broad pulses required to connect directly to a digital television set.
In addition to 525p/625p digital copy-protection support, the CX25873 and CX25875 are fully compliant with Macrovision 7.1.L1, the latest analog copy protection standard. The CX25872 and CX25874 are designed for applications that do not require Macrovision copy protection.

Pricing and Availability
The CX25872/3 and CX25874/5 are sampling now with volume production scheduled in the third fiscal quarter, and are packaged in a 64-pin thin quad flat pack (TQFP) making them the smallest, most integrated single-chip encoders available. The CX25872/3 is priced at $7.00 in quantities of 10,000. The CX25874/5 is priced at $10.00 in quantities of 10,000.
